Copy of a letter to Muhammed Ali, World Heavyweight boxing champion, from Dennis Brutus. Brutus writes on behalf of the International Campaign Against Racism in Sport to express regret that Ali has agreed to go to South Africa, under apartheid conditions, to give an exhibition there. Brutus appeals to him not to go to South Africa until he can be welcomed by all the people of South Africa. Brutus says that Ali is known as a man of courage and integrity, as well as a great champion. If Ali accepts this insult of fighting under racially segregated conditions, in a society where blacks are treated as inferiors and subhumans, Brutus argues, Ali will be letting down millions of fans.
