A Pan African Freedom Movement for East and Central Africa has been formed with headquarters in Dar es Salaam. The decision to form the movement and adopt a freedom charter was taken in Mwanza, Tanganyika by political leaders from Kenya, Uganda, Tanganyika, Zanzibar, and Nyasaland. The meeting was convened by Julius Nyerere of the Tanganyika African National Union (T.A.N.U.); F.J. Khamisi of Kenya was chair. The British Commonwealth faces increasing disagreements, focused on Africa, particularly on apartheid South Africa and the related issue of the South West African Mandate. These disagreements will play out at the United Nations. The book review is of "The Quest for Africa" by Dr. Heinrich Schiffers. James T. Harris Jr., assistant executive director of the American Society of African Culture (AMSAC) has been presented with the James J. Hoey Award for Inter-racial Justice.
