James Steele, national chairman of the Young Workers Liberation League, plans to speak on "Reagan's Domestic and Foreign Policies: A Focus on Southern Africa." The minutes say the SASC agreed to support and co-sponsor the event. Steele went to Luanda, Angola and attended the First Congress of the Youth of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (JMPLA-YP) and the International Conference of Youth and Students in Solidarity with the Peoples, Youth and Students of Southern Africa. Information about the state pension funds divestment campaign should come soon from Boston. The People's Anti-War Mobilization and the All People's Congress are planning a demonstration against unfair and discriminatory practices of banks on March 9. It was agreed that Old Colony be a local target because it is an affiliate of First National Bank of Boston, which is implicated in the extension of loans to South Africa. B. Bowers will represent the SASC at planning meeting for this action. SASC members who are not going to the national march in Washington on March 27 will go to the Boston demonstration against the First National stockholders meeting. A master calendar on southern Africa activities is being prepared. The second issue of the SASC Newsletter is scheduled for March. The SASC literature table generally will be set up at the Campus Center Concourse every Monday. Judy is arranging for a banner. Angel will prepare a display stand with the caption "NO TO GENOCIDE, NO TO APARTHEID." Volunteers are needed for material aid campaign, poster design and production and media outreach for SWAPO and ANC appearances and for Steele talk, and security service during public appearances. Steve, John and Mokubung are the committee on the Two Weeks of Action. Geoff, Marion, Mary Ann, Naledi are also mentioned.
