Leaflet about the deportation hearing for Dennis Brutus on January 14, 1982 at 219 S. Dearborn Street, Chicago. People are asked to write letters demanding that Brutus be granted permanent residence in the United States and that he be allowed to adjust his immigration status without having to leave the country. Letters should be addressed to Joel Rogers, Acting District Director, Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) and should be sent to Brutus' attorneys, Mahmoud and Associates. A large demonstration of solidarity was held both in and outside the courtroom at Brutus' November 10 hearing, forcing the INS to move the hearing to a larger room. There will be a demonstration for Brutus on January 14. The Dennis Brutus Defense Committee also needs financial assistance for escalating legal fees. The leaflet includes reprint of a newspaper article "Brutus deportation case stalled" by Chinta Strausberg. The article quotes Congressman Gus Savage's support for Brutus but says that Northwestern University has not been actively supportive.
