Race Divisions • The draft document argues that, in organizing work on Southern Africa, class divisions cannot be overcome, and that should not be wished for, because the first two classes have contradictory interests and are in a struggle that has no peaceful resolution. Imperialism and racism, which cause the oppression of the masses of people in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Namibia, and Angola, result from the development of capitalist and monopoly capitalist classes, and are essential to its survival. The Progressive Party, backed by Anglo-American, is willing to make substantial economic concessions in exchange for buying off the threat of political power and economic relations. The Nationalist Party is convinced that terror is the best way to keep the masses in line. The anti-imperialist struggle in the U.S., and the support movements for Southern African liberation have generally been led by petty bourgeois forces, which is where the struggle around class divisions begin. The document discusses small businessmen, intellectuals, politicians, UN decrees, IBM (International Business Machines), Black community organizations, mass actions, and solidarity with working people.
