Ford T. Johnson; Committee of Conscience Against Apartheid

2 pages
The letter says the Committee of Conscience Against Apartheid was initiated by the American Committee on Africa and the National Student Christian Federation to focus on the role U.S. business plays in supporting the suppressive policies of apartheid in South Africa. Chase Manhattan and First National City Banks have been singled out; the Committee is calling for a city wide boycott of these banks. The first few months of this campaign, culminating on December 9, were spent securing pledges of withdrawal from large institutional depositors. The next months will focus on bringing this campaign to the general public.
