This funding appeal for The Africa Fund discusses South Africa's testing of an atomic bomb three years ago and its production of atomic weapons fuel for seven years. South Africa could not have built a bomb without technical assistance from the U.S. government, and the Reagan Administration is escalating that cooperation. The South African bomb raises the specter of nuclear war in southern Africa, given its refusal to live in peace with its neighbors. The South African army is occupying much of southern Angola, and South African soldiers were recently captured on a raid into Zimbabwe.
