The report says The Africa Fund sent antibiotics to the Saharan Red Crescent in Algeria for use by refugees from Western Sahara and medicines to Angola for use by Namibia refugees. Medicines, medical texts and equipment raised by support groups in North Carolina and San Francisco were shipped by the Africa Fund for Zimbabwe refugees in Mozambique. The report says Southern Africa continued to be the focus of The Africa Fund's work, including events leading to an independent Zimbabwe and South Africa's continuing refusal to make any agreement with the United Nations or with SWAPO toward independence in Namibia. The report says in Northwestern Africa, the struggle of the people of the Western Sahara for self-determination has resulted in a growing refugee problem in neighboring Algeria.
