Fundraising brochure for the work of The Africa Fund focuses on the needs of more than 70,000 Zimbabweans currently living in crowded refugee centers in Mozambique, Zambia and Botswana. As the liberation struggle in Zimbabwe has escalated, the Rhodesian regime has cracked down with increasing brutality. The brochure says the host countries themselves are poor and face many problems. Visitors to refugee centers have reported that refugees sleep in the open without blankets, receive meager rations, and are frustrated that they lack tools to build even primitive sanitary facilities. The brochure says there are thousands of children in the refugee camps; among the adults there are teachers who would gladly give their services, but books, pencils and paper are lacking. The Africa Fund has been asked to provide basic school supplies as well as tools such as hammers, saws, and planes to build basic shelters. The refugees in the overcrowded camps also need basic medical protection: inoculations against cholera and measles, medicines to treat TB, malaria and bilharzia, and vitamins. Since 1967, The Africa Fund has been aiding African people on the difficult road to independence; in Angola, Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde, The Africa Fund has assisted with health, educational and agricultural projects established by African freedom movements. In the U.S., The Africa Fund regularly produces solidly-researched studies on economic, social and political developments in southern Africa. The brochure discusses the Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace. • Fleeing Repression • Refugee Needs • Self Help • Medicine • Africa Fund Projects • Trustees • Advisory Committee
