The report comments that FRELIMO's chief strength during the liberation struggle was its ability to mobilize and organize the people, including in liberated areas. At independence, there were only 120 doctors in the country, about 85 per cent of them located in the three main cities of Lourenco Marques (now Maputo), Beira and Nampula. On August 1, 1975, all health and hospital facilities formerly scattered under different government and private authorities were brought under government control, and a National Health Service was established. The report discusses Boavida Hospital in Mtwara and quotes Samora Machel. • A Sanitary Post and Maternity Clinic - Africa Fund Proposal
