This mailing of the Unlock Apartheid's Jails campaign profiles Evelina de Bruin, the only woman among 55 political prisoners on death row. De Bruin, a mother of 10 children who is poor and illiterate, and her husband were among the defendants in the Uppington 14 trial. All 14 people were sentenced to hang under the principle of having a "common purpose" in the killing of a policeman in Panallelo. The mailing reports there are nearly 3,000 political prisoners in South Africa. The mailing includes art by Dumile Fini.
