This mailing of the Unlock Apartheid's Jails campaign reports that Japie Andries Matabogo was beaten to death by the South Africa police while in detention; ten days earlier, 15-year-old Eugene Mbulwana also died in detention. Since 1963, 74 people are known to have died in detention. These deaths come amid a growing number of detentions, including Shirely Gunn, Mac Maharaj and Billy Nair.
