Brochure with a report on medical and health services in Mozambique. The brochure says I was able to meet with many members of the FRELIMO leadership; I spoke at length with Janet Mondlane, Director of the Mozambique Institute, about specific projects and needs, visited the secondary school at Bagamoyo, and talked with friends and staff there; I also had a long discussion with a doctor who had just ended a three-year stay at the FRELIMO hospital in southern Tanzania. The brochure says the one experience which gave me the clearest and most powerful insight into the strength and solidity of FRELIMO as an organization was a 3 day visit to the Americo Boavida hospital in Mtwara. The brochure says FRELIMO has established a system of health care in the liberated areas which ranges from a single health assistant at a local dispensary or clinic to small regional hospitals to one large hospital; presently, all are staffed only by medical assistants, but the first FRELIMO doctors are due back later this year; nevertheless, this is the first health care that thousands of Mozambican people have ever received.
