Reprint of an October 7, 1994 newspaper opinion piece by Dumisani S. Kumalo. Kumalo discusses the symbolism of his attending a reception in honor of Nelson Mandela at the South African Embassy, after having been arrested protesting outside the embassy and having organized the delivery of tens of thousands of keys to the Embassy symbolizing the demand to release Mandela from prison. This is one indication of the enormous change South Africa has undergone. Kumalo discusses the long fight for Mandela's freedom and that of thousands of political prisoners in South African jails. The article discusses arrests, Prof. Robert Edgar of Howard University, Robben Island, and Harry Schwarz.
