Wyatt Tee Walker; American Committee on Africa
New York, New York, United States
December 21, 1993
3 pages
An urgent appeal by Wyatt Tee Walker asking people to renew their membership in the Religious Action Network (RAN). Walker says that, on April 27, 1994, South Africa will hold its first non-racial election. The dangers facing a free and democratic process are increasing as the date gets closer. Political violence is on the rise and right-wing obstructionists like Chief Gatsha Buthelezi's Inkatha Freedom Party are calling for civil war if they are not guaranteed positions in the new government before even the voting. Walker asks RAN member congregations to support the special Election Watch Campaign that will keep congregations informed of threats to a free and fair election.
