The press release says the American Committee on Africa joins with the people of Missouri in condemning the Missouri State Employees Retirement System (MOSERS) for failing and refusing to divest its public funds from companies doing business in and with South Africa. MOSERS must carry out the Missouri state law on divestment. The press release says divestment and economic sanctions played a critical role in pressuring the South African government to release Nelson Mandela and implement some political reforms; these reforms are not complete. The press release discusses human rights organizations, Amnesty International, political violence, and the African National Congress (ANC).
