Testimony by Jennifer Davis, Executive Director of the American Committee on Africa, delivered in Philadelphia in support of legislation that would divest funds of the state of Pennsylvania from companies and banks doing business in South Africa. Davis reviews the situation of blacks in South Africa, apartheid, and the bantustans. The testimony says U.S. bank lending to South African borrowers expanded by some $960 million in 1983 and total outstanding loans from U.S. banks to S.A. borrowers stood at $4,421 million at the end of December. Davis examines U.S. investment in South Africa and discusses Mobil and Caltex and discusses the Sullivan Principles.
