The press release says that Judge William Booth, President of the American Committee on Africa, congratulated Tony Bennett on his decision not to perform in South Africa. Bennett turned down a lucrative offer to perform in Sun City, part of the homeland of Bophuthatswana, which South Africa claims to have made an independent black country. The U.S. and the United Nations have refused to recognize this "independence" because it denies black people citizenship and equal rights in South Africa itself.
