Jennifer Davis writes that ACOA, the Kentucky State NAACP, black legislators, and other concerned activists mounted a campaign to protest Governor Brown of Kentucky's trade mission to South Africa. John Johnson, President of the Kentucky NAACP, arranged for a meeting of Governor Brown and his staff with Davis, Mokubung Nkomo of the ANC, and Jerry Herman of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC). After the meeting, Governor Brown announced at a businessmen's luncheon that the state would not do business with South Africa "because it believes in racism." The mailing includes an article from the Courier-Journal about Governor Brown's decision.
