Report to the Trustees of The Africa Fund from George Houser about his trip to Guinea, Zaire, Zambia and Tanzania. He spent a week in the Republic of Guinea and inside Guinea-Bissau visiting medical and educational projects with the PAIGC just before the first meeting of the National Peoples Assembly at which their independence was proclaimed. The report quotes Amilcar Cabral, leader of the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cate Verde (PAIGC), which probably is the strongest movement in the so-called Portuguese territories of Africa. The report discusses the Pilot School, the Friendship Institute, and Solidarity Hospital. Houser says he visited the work of the Mozambique Institute connected with the Mozambique Liberation Front (FRELIMO). Houser says he visited the secondary school at Bagamoyo. Houser says the Mozambique Liberation Front has pretty good control of the two most northern provinces - Cabo Delgado and Niassa - and significant control in Tete province. Houser says he talked to Joachim Chissano and Mrs. Janet Mondlane about the educational work at Tunduru and the medical work at Mtwara. Houser says three years ago he visited Boavida Hospital. Houser reports that The Africa Fund gave help to Medical Assistance Services (S.A.M.), the medical program of the People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA). Houser says he had lengthy discussions with Dr. D'Almeida, director of S.A.M. In Dar es Salaam, Houser met with Ruth Neto, the sister of Agostinho Neto, president of MPLA. Houser also discusses the National Liberation Front of Angola and Services for the Assistance of Angolan Refugees (SARA).
