The paper presented on behalf of Aktiekomittee Zuidelijk Afrika (AZKA) points out that Belgian solidarity groups lack paid staff; AZKA is the only one of the three Belgian anti-apartheid committees that is staffed with volunteers during office hours. Founded in 1972 as the Flemish Angola Committee, AZKA investigated Belgium's trade with and bank loans to South Africa and Belgium's role in violating the mandatory arms embargo on South Africa, especially the GC 5 Howitzer which South Africa claims to have produced itself and is currently testing in Namibia.
