Mailing about a student/youth conference to be held on September 11-12 in conjunction with hearings on student anti-apartheid work before the United Nations Special Committee Against Apartheid. The mailing says the conference on African liberation solidarity and links to struggles against domestic racism is being held at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC); its student government agreed to host the meeting with the University Student Senate of the City University of New York. Following the hearings, there will be presentations by Carl Johnson, former member of the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and now with the Third World Organizing Center, and Monica Nashandi, representative of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO). Willie Terry of the Black Student Communications Network will moderate. The mailing says more than 300,000 Black miners have gone on strike in South Africa and Namibia, while the Reagan Administration continues its collaboration with apartheid despite the "end" of constructive engagement.
