The American Committee on Africa called for the United States to support the application for membership in the United Nations of the new West African Republic of Guinea-Bissau, which is expected to be filed soon. ACOA President the Hon. William H. Booth and Executive Director George M. Houser wrote to Secretary of State Henry Kissinger that, with an affirmative vote in the General Assembly virtually assured, given that 80 nations have already granted diplomatic recognition to the new nation, the U.S. obstructing membership in the Security Council "would be a great injustice."
