In September, the Republic of Guinea-Bissau declared its independence from Portugal, which still refuses to acknowledge Guinea-Bissau's right to self-determination. The liberation struggle continues. The article includes an account of Houser's visit to Guinea-Bissau at the invitation of the PAIGC, the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde. The article also discusses the impact of the assassination of Amilcar Cabral, leader of PAIGC, in January. This article was reprinted from October 31, 1973 issue of the Christian Century.
