The Dennis Brutus Defense Committee expressed its shock at the assassination of Ruth First, an intellectual and member of the African National Congress. She was killed by a parcel bomb in Mozambique, where she was living in exile. The press release argued that First's murder highlights that Brutus also will be vulnerable to murder by the South African government if he is deported from the United States.
