This issue of Bulletin reports that the nonviolent civil disobedience campaign (Campaign Against Unjust Laws) in South Africa was being taken seriously by all sides concerned. The Bulletin gives the position of Manilal Gandhi and says that Z. K. Matthews, president of the Cape Province African National Congress (ANC) will be in the United States for the year. The Bulletin reports that India took the lead in sending a memorandum from the Asia-Africa countries to the Secretariat of the United Nations (UN) asking that the whole race conflict in South Africa be considered as a major item at the forthcoming Assembly. The Bulletin includes a text of the memorandum of the Asia-Africa countries. Note on date: 1) The Bulletin says that more that 4,000 people already have been arrested, a figure apparently reached in September according to various issues of the Bulletin. 2) Z. K. Matthews was in the U.S for the 1952/53 school year. 3) The Bulletin mentions the "forthcoming" UN Assembly opening on October 14th.
