Letter to Peter Weiss from Theodore E. Brown about a conference "The Role of the American Negro Community in U.S. Policy Toward Africa" planned for November 23-25, 1962. Enclosed with the letter was: (1) a copy of a two-page letter to heads of Negro organizations from A. Phillip Randolph, Roy Wilkins, James Farmer, Dorothy Height, Whitney Young, and Martin Luther King, Jr.; (2) Call (initial) by the American Negro Leadership Conference on Africa To All Negro Organizations To A Conference On "THE ROLE OF THE AMERICAN NEGRO COMMUNITY IN U.S. POLICY TOWARD AFRICA" (2 pages); and (3) press reports on African Policy Conference (Washington Post), OUR Conference on Africa (Washington Afro American) (2 pages). Also included was a Press Release dated September 5 (available separately on this website). Conference sponsors included American Committee on Africa, American Society of African Culture, Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, Congress of Racial Equality, Ghandi Society for Human Rights, National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, National Council of Negro Women, National Urban League, Negro American Labor Council, and Southern Christian Leadership Conference.
