This ordnance, introduced by Councilmember d'Eustachio, mandated that Takoma Park, Maryland no longer do business with or purchase products of Royal Dutch/Shell and the Shell Oil Company - and that the City of Takoma Park be declared "Shell-Free" - until Royal Dutch/Shell completely withdraws from South Africa. The National Labor Boycott Shell Committee sought to get cities across the United States to pass such resolutions. The ordinance mentions the racist apartheid regime, basic human and civil rights, employment, education, freedom of speech, press, and assembly, a just legal system, the South African police (SAP) and military, Shell South Africa, and Paula S. Jewell.
