The mailing reports on an all day meeting in New York at which the HRAAA Executive Committee agreed that it was time to officially broaden the mission and change the name of the organization. HRAAA began five years ago as an ad hoc effort by three West Coast graduates to bring the issue of divestment before the Harvard-Radcliffe alumni/ae through the device of running candidates for the Board of Overseers. There are now four Overseers elected by HRAAA: Gay Seidman, Consuela Washington, Peter Wood, and Desmond Tutu. The proposed new name is: "Harvard-Radcliffe Alumni/ae Against Apartheid - A Movement for Diversity and Social Responsibility."
