Mailing to Harvard and Radcliffe Alumni/ae Against Apartheid supporters. At a press conference, they announced having turned in 4,617 petition signatures to successfully place five people (Ephraim Isaac, Evelyn Fox Keller, Ruth Messinger, Nell Irvin Painter and Michael Tanzer) on the ballot for election to the Board of Overseers. The benefit concert, "Songs for Free South Africa: HarvAid," was an overwhelming success. Harvard Corporation went to extraordinary lengths to insure divestment would not be voted on at the February Overseers meeting. In response to the ongoing efforts to keep the Board from voting on divestment, students have started an "Adopt-An-Overseer" campaign.
