In this report for a North American Anti-Imperialist Coalition (NAAIC) conference, the Southern Africa Committee (SAC) discusses its history and recent activities, including lobbying and testifying at Congressional hearings about U.S. policy on southern Africa. It also announces SAC's new slide/tape show on U.S. corporations in South Africa. The report explains that SACs origins, in 1964, were in the Student Christian Movement (UCM), but it became independent in 1968 when the UCM disbanded. SAC's work in the campaign against U.S. banks that provided credit to the South African government expanded to campaigns against other U.S. corporations. The report also discusses SAC's increased relationship with and support of the liberation movements in southern Africa, through its newsletter and a fundraising campaign for the MPLA in Angola. Since the Unilateral Declaration of Independence in Southern Rhodesia in 1965, the Committee has produced a magazine, Southern Africa, a comprehensive survey of news, opinion, and action on southern Africa.
