CFM members in New York attended a FRELIMO Day meeting on September 25 at the U.N. Church Center marking the 8th anniversary of the start of the armed struggle led by the Mozambique Liberation Front against Portuguese colonial rule. More than 20 U.N. delegations were represented; the Zambian foreign minister Mudenda and Tanzanian U.N. Ambassador Salim spoke. FRELIMO representative Sharfudine Khan reported that FRELIMO forces have started operations on a fourth front in the strategic Manica e Sofala Province. CFM is producing a button with a picture of the late Dr. Eduardo Mondlane, the first president of FRELIMO, with the words "FRELIMO Vencera." A new film, "A Luta Continua," is now available. It is a 30-minute, 16mm color film made by Robert Van Lierop and Robert Fletcher in liberated Niassa Province in northern Mozambique last year. Firestone Rubber reportedly has backed out of a plan to start a tire factory in Mozambique because of pressure from a Portuguese tire company. The CFM report also mentions President Samora Machel, Tricontinental Films, CALA, international solidarity, LSM (Liberation Support Movement), Rhodesia, MPLA, and Africa Information Service. The MACSA article reports that it is organized into four subcommittees, including on raising funds for liberation movements, political education, and "troubleshooting" on short-term things such as Polaroid cameras being given away in a contest by a local store, which is willing to give away a copy of the Polaroid Revolutionary Workers Movement pamphlet with each camera. The current focus is on a fund-raising campaign for PAIGC (African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde). MACSA will show two films, "Madina Boe" and "West Africa: Another Vietnam?" to as many groups as possible over about 10 days, canvas people on MACSA's mailing list, organize a benefit dance-concert, and place articles in local press. An ad hoc subcommittee is pushing a boycott of South African goods in local stores, such as "Kaffir tea" at health food stores.
