The letter reports that the Chicago Committee for the Liberation of Angola, Mozambique and Guinea (CCLAMG) has changed its name to the Chicago Committee for African Liberation (CCAL). The letter also reports that one of CCAL's members, Carole Collins, has just returned from a year in Africa, including over a month in Mozambique just following the Third Part Congress of FRELIMO. The letter says Collins will be on the East Coast until late May and is anxious to share her experiences with North Americans. The letter says Collins would like help in setting up speaking engagements and discussions in schools, colleges, community groups, churches, unions and solidarity committees. During her year in Africa Collins spent extended periods of time in Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Uganda, and Mozambique. She met with liberation movement representatives of ZANU, ZAPU, SWAPO, and ANC South Africa. She visited Zimbabwe refugee camps including Nhazonia, site of the Rhodesian massacre of 600 refugees in Mozambique. One particular area of her research was on the role of women in the liberation struggle, and thus she interviewed women leaders in SWAPO and in the Organization of Mozambican Women (OOM). She also interviewed trade union leaders. The letter reports that CCAL will soon be publishing an interview Carole did with two leading women in SWAPO, concerning the role of women in Namibia.
