The leaflet notes that the American Revolution began with the Declaration of Independence but, to achieve independence, people had to take up guns against overseas colonial rulers. Similarly, the people of Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau and Cape Verde are fighting with guns to secure their independence. Their successes helped create the economic and military crisis within Portugal that led to the coup of April 25, 1974. General Spinola's new government still refuses to recognize the right to total independence in the African "colonies."
