Action Alert urging lobbying of members of the House Banking Committee to support H.R. 1083, a bill introduced by Rep. Julian Dixon (D-Calif.) and Rep. Michael Lowry (D-Wash.) to instruct the U.S. director of the International Monetary Fund to oppose loans to any country that practices apartheid. This Congressional campaign followed unprecedented opposition within the IMF to a $1.1 billion loan to South Africa approved in November 1982.
