In April,1990, the Chicago City Council passed a resolution linking Chicago with as a Sister Community with Alexandra (Alex), South Africa. The resolution recognized the Alexander Civic Organization as the legitimate representative of the residents of Alex. The Chicago effort was part of the US-SA Sister Community Project based in San Francisco.
