The letter notes that eight nations in Africa remain dominated by European minorities and that African freedom fighters are struggling against colonialism. As a result of the conflict, thousands of Africans have been rendered homeless and often have being forced to seek shelter in neighboring independent Black states. The mailing seeks support for the Southern Africa Relief Fund (SARF), which was established by a group of concerned Black people to provide monies for food, clothing and other forms of humanitarian relief in Southern Africa. SARF said it would forward contributions to the African Liberation Committee of the Organization of African Unity (OAU).
