Dr. Mji is President of the National Medical and Dental Association (NAMDA), an alternative, non-racial medical association founded by medical workers concerned about the deteriorating health situation of apartheid's victims. Dr. Mji is a former president of the South African Students Organization (SASO), co-founded by Steve Biko. Dr. Mji was held in detention for more than a year during 1976-77.
