Letter soliciting membership and dues. ACAS is now regularly producing a newsletter, its political action and research committees are working, and a conference on arms aid to South Africa has been held with a book published of the findings and another conference is planned on Namibia for this coming Spring. The first regular annual meeting is planned for Howard University on May 19-20. ACAS provides the most direct way for scholars and Africanists concerned about U.S. policy to exert their influence. ACAS receives no foundation or large donor support; this is a membership organization which exists through the concern and contributions of its associates. Dues can be sent to Tom Shlck.
