The mailing urges people to show solidarity with the women and men of the African National Congress (ANC) and the freedom-seeking people of South Africa by attending an event celebrating the 76th anniversary of the ANC. In addition, two prominent, D.C.-based South African activists face deportation; Olive and William Shisana, and their two U.S.-born children, have been told they must leave the U.S. and return to Southern Africa. As members of the ANC, they have been active and highly visible in the anti-apartheid struggle both here and, during their youth, in South Africa. For them to return to any part of the region would put them, and their children, in danger, since the South African Defense...

The Shisana Support Committee, of which the AAWO is a member, is circulating a petition addressed to the judge in their case. The AAWO WOMEN'S COMMITTEE TO CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY is also organizing a celebration on March 12 at the Reeves Center.
