The minutes say those attending were Willard Johnson, Kelley Chunn, JR Ransom, Robert Johnson, and Jemadari Kamara. The agenda was: 1. Planning for National Summit on Africa (NSOA) subregional meeting, 2. Letter to Janet Reno re: Amadou Diallo, and 3. General organizational issues. Chunn prepared a draft timeline for planning for the subregional meeting and an introductory packet for BPAF, with executive summary borrowed from the NSOA document. Chunn has been identifying partners and having conversations with Bob Ward, John Hammock, Patrick Dougherty. Dougherty is willing to help organize a forum leading up to the subregional meeting, probably with a "Tufts" slant. Chunn also contacted Hubie Jones at University of Massachusetts Boston (UMB), Bob Woodberry (UMB-McCormack Institute), and Brad Garrett. She suggested contacting Claire Shaw at the Boston Globe and the Globe Foundation for fundraising contacts. The NSOA wants to delay the East Coast summit to mid-October 1999. Bill Jackson of the African-American Institute (AAI) is planning a two-day meeting in October; they have not yet received authorization from NSOA; they have a budget of about $125,000-200,000 and are planning no outreach in New England. BPAF needs to convince NSOA to go along with our date of September 25. The Boston Foundation decided not to fund our proposal; it may be resubmitted later. The NSOA logo will be incorporate into the BPAF letterhead. South Africa Partners is having a health care forum; Chunn is on the advisory board representing BPAF. The minutes mention CBC (Congressional Black Caucus), Juneteenth, Tim Bork, resignation by Lisa Cook, Vicki Meredith, and membership recruitment.
