Letter to Bob Edgar at the UCLA African Studies Center describing the involvement of the American Committee on Africa (ACOA) in U.S. sports relations with South Africa. An enclosed flyer about the Davis Cup, "U.S.-DON'T PLAY BALL WITH SOUTH AFRICA," was issued two years ago, but the U.S. was unexpectedly knocked off in an earlier round. Gould also encloses the annual report of the South African non-racial council for sport. He suggests that Edgar might contact two athletes on the West coast who signed ACOA's "WE SAY NO TO APARTHEID'' statement - Rafer Johnson and Wilt Chamberlain. ACOA has also drafted astatement that is a combination indictment of South Africa's racist practices in sport and a resolution supporting the announced policy of the Supreme Council for Sport in Africa and the Organization of African Unity. Gould also sent names of a few important contacts who will be interested in learning about events as they unfold. The letter includes a resolution adopted by the South African Council on Sport (SACOC) at its biennial conference in Durban on October 12, 1975. The mailing includes a copy of a cable sent to Australian Prime Minister Gough Whitlam on October 16, 1975 and a BLACK GOLFERS IN S. AFRICA by the Durban Golf Club (DGC). The letter mentions the South African Professional Players Golf Association, Gary Player, the South African Golf Association, Norman Middleton, Hassan Howa, Hamilton Mbatha, Martin du Preez, and racially-oriented sports bodies.
