The white minority governments of Zimbabwe (Rhodesia), Azania (South Africa) and Namibia (South West Africa) have forcibly imposed the inhuman system of apartheid on the black citizens of these countries. SASC opposes all U.S. military, economic, and political ties to these governments. Since last summer's uprising in the black township of Soweto, Prime Minister Vorster and his Security Police have used increasingly brutal measures to suppress the rising anger of the South African people. Vorster's bantustan (homeland) "independence" plan is an attempt to salvage South Africa's public image. The Geneva Conference was originally planned to bring about the transfer of power to black majority rule in Zimbabwe (Rhodesia). U.S., Belgian, West German, South African and British corporations have invested in mining, agriculture and fishing in Namibia to benefit from cheap African labor and police-state conditions. The newsletter says November marked the first anniversary of the People's Republic of Angola, under the leadership of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA). The newsletter includes information about the demonstration and pickets at the Davis Cup in April. The newsletter mentions detention, solitary confinement, arrests, black activists, banning orders, the Transkei, Rhodesian Party (Rhodesian Front), the Patriotic Front, ZANU (Zimbabwe African National Union), ZIPA (Zimbabwe People's Army), Ivor Richard, Henry Kissinger, negotiations, President Jimmy Carter, Andrew Young, the Bushmen, the Nama, Damaras, the Okavango, Kaokovelders, Rehoboths, land, the Police Zone, Allied Powers, the League of Nations, the South West African People's Organization (SWAPO), South African troops, Sam Nujoma, the murder of seven white missionaries, Prime Minister Ian Smith, Clemens Kapuuo, liberation organizations, rigid segregation, poverty, infant mortality, and human rights.
