Leaflet advertising publications of the Washington Office on Africa (WOA) and Washington Office on Africa Educational Fund (WOAEF), including "NATAL/KWAZULU: WHAT'S BEHIND THE VIOLENCE?" The fighting in South Africa's Natal province has left more people dead than the strife in Beirut. The media catch phrase "black on black violence" does not explain what's behind the violence. Also, "tribal violence" or "rival anti-apartheid groups" totally misrepresent reality. Chief Gatsha Buthelezi's one-party KwaZulu state, set up by the apartheid regime to rule Zulu South Africans, is attempting to forcibly suppress unions and any other independent political forces; the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) and other anti-apartheid organizations are demanding an end to the violence and freedom to organize. The leaflet also advertises "Lobby Tips/ Arranging and Conducting a Meeting with a Member of Congress," "Pending Southern Africa Legislation in the U.S. Congress," "Nelson Mandela's Address to the U.S. Congress," "Apartheid Laws and Institutions Still in Effect" (including negotiating positions of the African National Congress (ANC) and the Pretoria government), "South Africa Sanctions Talking Points," "Action Alert-Stop U.S. Aid to UNITA Now!," "De Klerk and Apartheid: What Kind of Change?" and "Washington Notes on Africa - Spring 1990" newsletter with articles on: "Apartheid in Crisis"; "Relaxing Sanctions?"; "Namibia: The Road Ahead"; and "U.S. Still Fuels War in Angola."
