Jean Sindab, director of the Washington Office on Africa (WOA), was asked by CECSA to convene a planning meeting for these activities and to have WOA coordinate planning of the briefing. Sindab introduced the coordinating Secretary of the Churches Emergency Committee on Southern Africa, Rosemari Mealy, who explained CECSA's plans for June 14-17. It was agreed to recommend to CECSA that it promote home office visits for both Friday, June 13 and Saturday, June 14. Sindab reviewed current bills and others that are anticipated. Larry Gilley, a WOA staff person, reported the preparation of bulletin inserts for use in local churches on June 15 and the preceding Sundays. Mealy reported that CECSA had distributed a collection of worship materials for use in local churches on June 15. The United Church of Christ (UCC) and the Presbyterian Church (USA) have worship packets focused on South Africa. Mealy reported that arrangements are being made for a service at National City Christian Church on June 16, and diplomats and members of Congress will be invited. It was agreed to recommend to CECSA to consider asking for a meeting by heads of communions with the President, various forms of demonstration or protest, and groups which can help organize protests. It was agreed to urge CECSA to have a staff person in Washington, based at the National Council of Churches of Christ (NCCC), to do coordinating here. It was agreed to request that Sindab, Gilley, Gretchen Eick, Mary Jane Patterson and B Green meet on April 25 to continue planning the briefing and lobbying. The minutes also mention Sally Timmel, church channels, denominational and ecumenical networks, South African Council of Churches (SACC), a sample press release, Avery Post, and Lorenzo Shephard.
