Lasting peace requires both disarming warring clans and marauding thugs and also a swift, comprehensive plan for democratic rule and sufficient international economic aid. Transafrica, an early advocate for intervention in Somalia, is responding with the same speed and integrity as it did with its "Free South Africa Movement." It is taking the lead in staging a national peace conference in Somalia. Transafrica' s presence guarantees the integrity of the process, ensuring that any dialogue includes true Somalian leaders. Somalia's internationally renowned model, Iman, is joining TransAfrica in this effort. Combining Iman's high visibility with Transafrica's skill and experience will keep the global spotlight on warring factions to demand accountability and cooperation, and we can redirect the passion of individuals into organized political action. This funding appeal says donations will be used to support public education and grass roots activism, to empower the Somalian people, and to influence U.S. policy towards Somalia.
