A fundraising appeal for the Emergency Campaign to Stop Repeal of U.S. Sanctions to urgently put pressure on President Bush to not move to totally lift economic sanctions against South Africa this June. It is clear that the requirements for lifting these important sanctions contained in the Comprehensive Anti-Apartheid Act of 1986 have not been met. The letter summarizes the six conditions the South African government must meet and explains the status of each. If the U.S. capitulates on sanctions, it would create a domino effect and Great Britain, Germany and other Western powers would soon follow. The mailing also includes a post card to President Bush urging him to stand fast on sanctions, which people are asked to sign and send to the President. On March 12, TransAfrica released TRANSAFRICA'S REPORT CARD ON U.S. SANCTIONS AGAINST SOUTH AFRICA and sent it to every member of Congress and to key members of the Bush Administration. The Report Card contains an in-depth assessment of each of the unfulfilled conditions as well as a selected list of 62 apartheid laws still in effect in South Africa.
