Hinds, Director, Mandela Freedom Fund; Rev. Joan B. Campbell, National Council of Churches of Christ (NCC), and Rev. Dr. M. William Howard, President, New York Theological Society. The leaflet says This conference commemorates the 80th anniversary of the ANC which has led the oppressed people of south Africa in the struggle against apartheid a tyranny towards a democratic, non-racial and non-sexist South Africa. The leaflet says since Nelson Mandela's triumphant tour of 1990, political events within South Africa have shattered the myth that apartheid is dead; although President Mandela and other leaders of the ANC have been released from prison, political power remains a monopoly of the white minority regime; throughout the country people continue to suffer from the political and economic ravages of many years of institutionalized racist oppression and exploitation. The leaflet says this National Conference will provide the most current and accurate presentation of the realities and issues facing the democratic forces struggling for a new South Africa; it will also produce a PROGRAM OF ACTION FOR THE 90s, to be undertaken in the United states. in support of post-apartheid South Africa.
