Letter to Lenah Ntuli, NUMSA Shop Steward and NUMSA Members at Caterpillar in South Africa from Kathy Devine. The letter says thank you for meeting with Cole Wright and myself on March 9. We want to again express our deepest appreciation for all union workers for your actions on behalf of Caterpillar strikers in the U.S. and your great solidarity. The letter says we arrived back in the U.S. just two days ago; I heard from UAW folks in Chicago that CNN/TV International reported we were denied entrance to CAT premises; you must have notified CNN, and I thank you for that too. The letter says some political officials in Illinois (the state where CAT is headquartered) will surely raise questions...
The letter says some political officials in Illinois (the state where CAT is headquartered) will surely raise questions with the company for denying us to come with Numsa onto CAT premises; we'll wait until we talk with the UAW before meeting any officials, but will keep you informed of our actions in that regard. The letter says I look forward to keeping in touch with you now and then, and expect you will hear directly from CAT strikers as well. CC copies of the letter were sent to Elias Monage, NUMSA Headquarters; Bill Stewart, UAW Region 4 Director; and Don Stillman, UAW International Director. The letter discusses NUMSA (National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa) and UAW (United Auto Workers).
