Illinois Labor Network Against Apartheid mailing signed by Johnnie Jackson, President, Chicago Chapter, Coalition of Labor Union Women (CLUW); Jack Parton, Director, District 31, United Steelworkers of America (USWA); and Bill Steward, Director, Region 4, United Auto Workers (UAW). The mailing says we are pleased to inform you that on Saturday, May 12, the Illinois Labor Network Against Apartheid will present an exciting educational program and rally entitled "From Danville, Illinois to Soweto, South Africa: A Fight for Human Rights and Union Rights." The mailing says the program is sponsored by the UAW Area CAP Council and the Vermilion County Coalition of Labor Union Women. It cosponsored by the Vermilion County Federation of Labor, Danville NAACP, and several local churches arid unions. The mailing says the purpose of the event is twofold: to inform participants about the current situation in South Africa, and to kick off the formation of a downstate branch of the Illinois Labor Network. The mailing says a great deal is happening in South Africa; our efforts downstate will help keep the pressure on South Africa's apartheid regime at this critical time in history, and provide a forum for local. unions in that area to become involved in the South African solidarity movement. The mailing says details of the May 12 program are included on the enclosed flyer; please inform any local union affiliates that you have in the Champaign, Urbana and Danville areas and urge the members of your union to attend this event.
